PAKISTAN NEEDS UNIFORMITY IN EDUCATION
Education plays an important role in progress and prosperity of a nation. It brings a nation from the dark valley of ignorance to the highway of wisdom and awareness. We lack behind the other nations simply because of the fact that we are poorly educated nation. To further aggravate the situation, there is class-based education in our country which is widening the already yawning gap between the privileged and non–privileged sections of the society.
Uniformity of education plays a significant role not only in the progress of a nation but also creates harmony among different federating units. Sadly, there are different educational systems functioning at present in Pakistan. Those who belong to low strata of society are unable to access to quality education because of their financial constraints and therefore are bound to attend the public schools which are in pathetic condition. On the other hand those who belong to the privileged sections of the society have accessibility to quality education. There by stealing a march upon others. This class-based educational system deprives many talented young men and to get their due place in the society. Majority of our population is poor, not to speak of quality education, they find it hard to make their both ends meet.
In this backdrop uniformity of education can play a pivotal role in yanking the people out of vicious circle of poverty. Equipped with modern and quality education. Disgruntled youth can contribute constructively in the development of society. If they are left uneducated, they can become easy prey to fundamentalist elements.
In this way, they are likely to be burden on society. Given this we need to devise policy aimed at uniformity of education so that we may exploit the potential of our youth.
Education in our country has been one of the most neglected departments. The ruling elite has shown no interest in bringing an end to the class-based education. According to United Nations Development Program, 60% of population in Pakistan has no access to clean water and basic health facilities. If the government doesn’t try to facilitate this huge portion of our population, it would be unjust.
As majority of our population is composed of the young people, the government should come with over-arching policy aimed at equipping the youth with quality education. In this way we can turn the youth into an effective human source which would be highly useful for putting the country on the path of progress and prosperity. Taking leaf from the success story of China, we can also huge population to our advantage.
Bangladesh and India got rid of class-based education immediately after they won independence. Pakistan is an ideological state. It is high that all our educational institutions should operate under one system so that we may ensure justice and equality in our country as was envisioned by its founding fathers
QUAID-E-AZAM said that:
“Brotherhood Equality and fraternity of man, these are all the basic points of our religion, culture and civilization. And we have fought for Pakistan because there was a danger of denial of these human rights in this subcontinent.”
Keeping in view the unrest among the federating unit, it is also crying need of the hour to bring harmony among them. Uniformity of education will play an important role in bringing them closer together.
